One Member´s Case for Joining AFP
Yes, AFP costs more than a local organization, but I am at a point in my career where I need more. Nowhere else can I get the following:
- Information: 24-hour resources any time, free of charge. When I need help with my major gifts program, I call AFP for the latest information. A packet arrives in the mail prepared especially for me with all the latest publications, articles and tools. Nonmembers pay $50 for this service. I have used it six or seven times over the last few years, which more than paid for my membership.
- My need for community: When I move, AFP is in every community waiting for me. My membership connects me to a local chapter of colleagues who have become lifelong friends as well as an international group of creative people I reconnect with at the annual conference every year.
- My reputation: My employer and donors know that I am a CFRE and uphold the Code of Ethics. That means a lot to me.
- My career: I have limited time (and money!) for professional development, and need to make the right choices to advance my career as well as my confidence in my profession. Nowhere else have I found the career planning that AFP´s Career Planner provides. I can track my goals and my training to help me keep moving forward despite a busy day-to-day schedule.
- My sanity: I have to raise a lot of money every year. I can´t keep up with trends and government changes on my own. AFP interprets, communicates and keeps me informed about what I need to know, why I need to know it and what the consequences are if I don´t know it.
- My budget: Everything AFP provides is discounted for members. Everything. I can´t afford to be without it.
- My friends: I have met great people through AFP. They understand my jokes, support me in times of stress and make sure I celebrate often.
